Random Stuff

Haven't really done much over last few weeks, I've either been lazy or doing my own stuff to improve. So yea, slacking on the homework. But I feel like foundation figure drawings are getting better. Noticing things over few drawings that could be better. Essentially, thank you Kevin. *Head on floor.* On a side note, feel like my enviro sketchings arn't going so hot. Starting to forget how to use the marker and letting the shadow shapes decide everything for me. Not good.

Total Fail + Crits

Yay for more fail. First 3, Jerad mentioned more anatomy and refinement. Drawing through my form and establishing the gestures before that. Also told me to stop toon shading and being stylized. I also missed a lot of good opportunities on my first drawing when I went color.

As for the painting, Jackson mentioned how to light it when he did a PO, pretty much to show players a focus in my paintings. Things you usually want players to focus on are lit, and he talked about cinematic and theatrical lighting and how it guides the eyes. I also need more saturation in the piece.
As for quality, more colors and details. It's not just gold for the statue, green for the plants, etc. Stuff in life is more vibrant, they catch light from all directions, such as blue from the sky, yellow sun, green filtered when it passes through plants. Jackson also mentioned that things are rarely perfect, people don't use perfectly painted beige huge stone slabs without a crack in them.
His advice to me was to study life and find the varieties in it. Then we talked about the different types of lighting.

Technically my final, except I have to redo a world view of Caladan again.. sigh. Well, at least I know my lighting now thanks to crits and lessons from Emily.
Crits and PO from Jackson also helped, showed how to design better with overlap as well as a better ground plane. Also told me to render and define forms in the foreground more while pushing background elements, such as the trees, back by not making them so dark and by blurring/blending them. He also mentioned reoccurring patterns in nature, such as the mushroom, which was also mentioned in Jerad's class. Other than that, I need to look at my references to get different material's reflection/lighting.
